Lornano
Lornano is a boutique winery owned by the same family since 1904. It’s located on southwest hills of Castellina in Chianti on the border between Castellina and Monteriggioni. The winery was built up around the old church of Lornano in the fifteenth century and the form of the current structure dates to the second half of the eighteenth century.
Lornano practices and promotes a Sustainable Model of Agriculture. A new agriculture that satisfies human needs but is more respectful of the environment and of human health. Making sustainable wine means working in a way whose purpose is the preservation of our natural resources for future generations. We promote equilibrium, protect the environment and preserve natural resources by biodiversity in vineyards. No chemical fertilizers and herbicides; dry farmed; use weather stations DSS minimizing and reducing treatments; use a minimum amount of sulfites.
The property extends over 180HA, of which 70 are planted with vines. 80% of the vineyard is planted with 15 different carefully selected clones of Sangiovese, which expresses all the authentic character of this ancient and amazing grape. The Terroir is essentially rocky calcareous soil, rocks, with layers of sandstone with silt and clay and with marine sediments rich in minerals. The Vineyards are situated at an average altitude of 350 meters above sea level. The wine is produced exclusively from the vineyards of the estate.
