Collemattoni

Collemattoni means the "hills of iron" due to the iron influence in the soils and the burnt sienna color of the soils. Today, the estate is run by Marcello Bucci, focusing on a winemaking philosophy that exemplifies a sense of place and respect for the area. The estate is located on the south side of Montalcino on the hilltops just outside Sant’Angelo in Colle.

Thanks to the presence of a biomass-fueled heating system and solar panels, Collemattoni produces 80% of the electricity needed at the winery. Inside the estate, there are also rainwater recovery pipes. The Collemattoni winery currently features around 11 hectares of vineyards, mostly Sangiovese, in five different areas in the southwest and southeast of the Montalcino community. These all have varying degrees of Calchare and chalk amongst the iron-rich soils.
