Chateau la Borie

80+ HA property is located in Suze-La-Rousse in the Southern part of the Rhone Valley, between forests, truffles and lavender fields. La Borie is a single-block estate and one of the very few in the Rhône Valley to bear the château moniker. The region is part of the Drôme Provencale (northern part of the Provence region), 80 miles from the Mediterranean Sea.

Even though its officially part of the Southern Rhone Valley, the key is that they are south of the Northern Rhone Valley and north of the Southern Rhone Valley. As a result, the wines are fresher than the average Southern Rhone Valley wines. It was built in the 18th century by Louis Charles de la Baume-Suze, a descendant of the Princes of Orange. It served as an extension for the famed castle of Suze-La- Rousse to which it was connected via underground galleries.

New ownership, led by Raphael Knapp, is finishing conversion to organic farming and certification. The majority of the Chateau is composed of marl and clay, often extremely rocky, which is very typical of the Cotes du Rhone appellation.
