Annesanti
Valnerina, a mountainous and isolated part of Umbria, is where you’ll find Francesco Annesanti at his family farm, high up on a hill overlooking the Nera River valley. It is a rural part of Umbria where there are no other vines for miles in any direction.
Francesco’s father farms most of the family’s 20HA of cereals, legumes, and olives. The winemaking endeavor is new, growing from 1HA of diverse vines (Spoletino, Grechetto, Barbera, Aleatico, etc.) inherited from Francesco’s grandfather. The old cellar/barn Annesanti currently inhabits is crammed full of barrels and amphorae. His terra cotta amphorae were custom made to support the minuscule quantities that he works with.
